The water moves, the spray looks good, and the pond appears healthy enough to leave alone for another week. But beneath that comfortable routine lies a seasonal rhythm that is well worth understanding. Spring: Start It Right
This is the time of year when ponds come alive, and this is the time of year when things get risky, too, as the organic material that has fallen into the pond during the previous year now starts breaking down quickly, causing the oxygen level in the pond to decrease before the warmer temperatures of spring stabilize it.
Begin running your Kasco pond fountain as early as the surface temperatures permit, usually when they rise above 40 degrees Fahrenheit. The sooner the fountain is running, the sooner the water column is well mixed, before the thermocline develops, which is what maintains the oxygen level in the deeper waters of the pond, where the majority of the fish are.
